Morgan Quaintance’s South was one of three ‘Spotlight’ films shown at Alchemy Live, the free worldwide stream of Alchemy Film and Moving Image Festival’s tenth edition.
Produced as part of LUX and the Independent Cinema Office&#;s Second Sight programme, South is an expressionistic response to anti-racist and anti-authoritarian liberation movements in South London and Chicago’s South mark the film&#;s screening at Alchemy Live, Morgan spoke to Jonathan Ali, Alchemy Film & Arts Programmer, about self-portraiture, antiracist struggle, and Barry Manilow.
Alchemy: Southranges across a raft of southern spaces, relative and absolute, so named – not merely the South Side of Chicago and SouthLondon, which serve as the film’s points of departure.
